The Problem: The purpose of a natural history museum is to improve the public's understanding of the natural world. Due to the sheer vastness of what is deemed the "natural world," plus the inclusion of non-natural history collections in several museums, certain topics tend to be overlooked. One such topic when visiting a Western museum would be the natural history of Southeast Asia. Of those museums that do house Asian collections, focus tends to fall on the East Asian nations of China, Japan, and Korea. Even rarer still would be the natural history of a specific Southeast Asian country such as the Philippines.
The Solution: Kaligiran is an interactive exhibit that familiarizes the casual museum-goer with the various sights and sounds found in the Philippines. Designed to be viewed on a touch-screen device, the exhibit takes up little room should museum real estate pose a problem. Its digital nature also allows it to contain far more information than the traditional museum exhibit.
Not all assets laid out in the wireframe were included in the mockup due to time constraints. Should the exhibit be prototyped or ultimately built, an effort would be made to create all listed assets.
